Global Positioning System is a Device locating technology service. It works with a network of satellites that orbits around the earth. They send details of the position to the device. These signals are obtained by GPS receivers in the handset to convert them into a locating information. This technology does not need any internet service. Devices having GPS technology will be directly connected to the satellites, while location service is turned on. This enables the devices to locate even in any remote area.
These data received will be used to calculate the movement of the device. By knowing the position of the device in every movement, the speed and navigation can also be detected. This process is used in maps and other location based services in our mobile phones.
